Who would oppose commonsense legislation to ensure that our teens are taught honest, realistic sex education in school?  Here's just a taste what the opposition is saying:
 
The Myth: "A highly controversial bill that would abolish abstinence until marriage education" -- N.C. Family Policy Council

The Truth:  This bill does not abolish "abstinence-only" education at all, it expands the current curriculum to include abstinence instruction and honest, realistic sex-education.  In fact, HB 879 explicitly says instruction and materials shall teach respect for marriage and committed relationships.

The Myth: "This new curriculum goes one step further and doesn't even give accurate failure rates for teens, giving them a false sense of security!" -- Called2Action

The Truth:  HB 879 requires, as does current law, that information about contraceptives "provide accurate statistical information on their effectiveness and failure rates."

The Myth: "Provisions in these bills will silence any bias against sexual orientation or gender identity, regardless of the FACT that sexual deviancy results in radically increased levels of STD's including HIV/AIDS." -– Called2Action

The Truth:  HB 879 ensures that all instruction and materials shall not reflect or promote bias against any person on the basis of sex, ethnic group identification, race, national origin, religion, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, or mental or physical disability.
